The excitement is building...

In a few days we leave for our third of four big vacations for our 40th anniversary travel extravaganza year.

This time, we’ll be flying to England, staying in London for almost a week, and then taking a British Isles cruise around the other parts of the islands.

I’m so excited.

You would think that, since we’ve already had two great vacations this year, one of them nearly as long as this upcoming trip, that I would not be over-the-moon excited about this one. Add to that the fact that we’ve been to England many times, and won’t be visiting a place new to us for the first nine days or so of the vacation. You’d think it might be old hat.

Not so.

Not so at all.

I’ve been researching. Making lists. Putting itineraries together. Reading maps. Trying to figure out a good London plan. Exploring other things to do in ports where we don’t have shore excursions, or have extra time in port.

It’s exhilarating.

Someone once told me that the most enthralling part of travel is the anticipation.

I think that’s true for me.

If you are willing to join us on this trip, here’s a little of what to expect:

  • Two spectacular afternoon tea destinations, plus a few that aren’t as tony;

  • Lots of peeks into various London markets – our plan takes us to five or six different ones during our stay;

  • One West End theater show;

  • One James Bond film exhibit;

  • Quick peeks at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Library, the British Museum, Covent Garden, the Transport for London Museum, the Sky Garden, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Liberty and Fornum and Mason;

  • Exciting days in Guernsey ; Cobh Ireland, Dublin and Glendalough;

  • The Giant’s Causeway in Belfast, Northern Ireland;

  • Scots stops – Loch Lomond, Invergordon, Edinburgh, Stirling Castle, and, most excitingly, the Orkney Islands including Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar

  • Lastly, but certainly not least – Normandy in France for the WWII battlefields, a must for any of us who had family who fought in that war.

Quite an itinerary. You can see why the excitement is building! We invite you to come along for the ride!
